I have something I’d like to share with you

    Hugh Linehan

We’ve updated our social bookmarking.. and not before time, some of you may feel. We’ve springcleaned and updated our  sharing tools on the top and bottom of articles on irishtimes.com. The new tools have been live since yesterday, and initial tracking seems to indicate people are using them quite a bit…

    …which is nice.

Any thoughts on other stuff we should be doing to encourage sharing?

    • Eoin says:

You might consider placing the sharing icons at the top, not the end, of every article. Or in a box on the right?

    • Hugh Linehan says:

Eoin – there is also a Share button at the top which gives access to the same tools

    • JT Hunter says:

Do the Irish Times have an plans to offer a content API for web developers like the Guardian and NY Times have done?

    • Betterworld Now says:

Any chance you could put hyperlinks on the references to articles included in letters to the editor for those of us who read them on-line?

Sometimes it can take ages to find out what the letter writers are banging on about.

For people who only read the hard copy it must be impossible to keep track unless they read every article in every section of every edition of the newspaper.

The letters page could be made much more interactive by this simple addition. It could become a kind of rating system for the popularity of articles, a review of ongoing debate and a way to broaden coverage of social issues.
