Cartoon of jigging Irish nurses: ‘Racist’ or funny?

Irish Facebook group considering complaint over cartoon in The West Australian

The Irish People Living in Australia Facebook group are considering an official complaint to the Australian Press Council over a cartoon published in The West Australian newspaper yesterday depicting Irish nurses dancing with a leprechaun at the bedside of two patients at an Australian hospital.

Here’s the email they sent to the editor of the newspaper this morning:

 

And here’s the response they claim to have received from the cartoonist Dean Alston minutes later:

 

What do you think? Is the cartoon “racist”, as the IPLA administrators believe, or is it funny?
