March seems to be a popular time of year for jobs fairs, with several taking place this week and next in Dublin and Cork.

The Opportunities Overseas Expo is on in the Clyde Court Hotel today from 2-7pm, with more than 1,000 jobs on offer in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. It will focus on construction and engineering jobs in New Zealand, especially in Christchurch where NZ$2.5 million is being spent every day on efforts to rebuild the city after the 2011 earthquake. Western Australia’s department of health and the government of Nova Scotia will also be there, alongside migration experts providing advice on visas and work permits.

The Working Abroad Expo returns to the RDS this Saturday and Sunday, concentrating exclusively for the first time on opportunities in Canada. Around 35 employers will be there, offering more than 1,000 positions. Canada’s wealthiest city Calgary will be sending a special delegation to the expo, hopeful of recruiting underemployed Irish construction tradespeople and professionals to work in the region’s prosperous oil and gas industry. Among them will be oil and gas giant Cenovus, Tarpon Energy, McElhanney, Pronghorn Controls and Crude Energy, as well as a representative from the Government of Alberta. Calgary Economic Development will represent a number of other Calgary companies.

The Canada Expo will move on to the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork next Wednesday. See
