Emigrant Christmases abroad
Emigrants around the world share their Christmas experiences, with other stories from today’s paper on emigration predictions for 2014 and the new homeless Irish in London
There were emotional scenes at Dublin airport all week as emigrants were welcomed home to Ireland for Christmas, but many others stayed abroad for Christmas this year. Some of them, living in Dubai, New York, California, Melbourne and Egypt, shared their Christmas experiences in the newspaper today. We also have a gallery of photographs sent in from readers around the world.
The Economic and Social Research Institute has predicted a 14 per cent drop in emigration this year as the economy improves. Ciara Kenny has the story.
Also in today’s paper, Mark Hennessy reports on the new generation of homeless emigrants arriving at the London Irish Centre’s door in Camden.
