The Irish Times forum by and for Irish citizens living overseas,

What’s your opinion on the Irish economy, watching it from afar?

Did you emigrate because of the recession, or does your decision to stay abroad or return hang on economic recovery?

Was your decision to emigrate related to the downturn, or would you have moved abroad regardless?

We’re looking for contributions from Irish people living abroad on how the recession in Ireland has had an impact on you, and whether you follow economic developments here from overseas.

Did the downturn prompt your decision to leave the country, or would you have left regardless? Were you already abroad when the crash happened? If you were watching the banking crisis and bailout from afar, what were your thoughts? And does your decision to stay abroad or return home hang on the possibility of economic recovery?

Leave a comment below this article, or email your thoughts to emigration@irishtimes.com, with ‘Economy’ in the subject line. Many thanks.
