The Emigrant Support Programme, which provides funding to Irish organisations around the world through the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Irish Abroad Unit, will close applications for this year tomorrow, February 20th.

The progamme, which is open to any group or organisation providing support to Irish emigrants, paid out €11.6 million in 2012.

“The ESP provides financial support to organisations engaged in the delivery of frontline advisory services and community care to Irish emigrants, particularly to the more vulnerable and marginalised members of our community abroad, including the elderly,” the Department says in its overview of the ESP.

Frontline welfare services are prioritised by the ESP, but the programme also funds a range of cultural, community and heritage projects, including Irish language groups and GAA clubs overseas.

The online application form can be filled out until close of business Irish time tomorrow.
