Picture postcards: The Gathering competition

Generation Emigration would like you to share what you are writing on your postcards for The Gathering before you pop them in the post. A selection of the best entries will be printed in The Irish Times on Friday 30th, and our favourite will win €200. Extra points for humour.

Blank postcards emblazoned with The Gathering logo landed in letterboxes all over the country this week, encouraging people to extend an invitation to emigrants or those of Irish descent around the world to “come home” to visit Ireland next year.

Generation Emigration would like you to share what you are writing on your postcards before you pop them in the post.

The message can be a genuine invitation to a long lost relative, a heartfelt plea to a child who has recently emigrated, or a whimsical take on the whole concept of The Gathering, like this postcard (pictured right) which was Tweeted by Richard Jacob (@idahocafe) this week.

A selection of the best entries will be printed in The Irish Times on Friday 30th, and our favourite will win €200. Extra points for humour.

To enter:

Email the wording of your postcard or a photograph of it to emigration@irishtimes.com before next Friday, November 23rd.

Don’t forget to let us know who you would send the postcard to and where they are now living (but please leave out their full address). Alternatively, you can enter the wording in the comments section below this article.
