What does your family home mean to you?

As part of their current production of Tom Murphy’s The House, the Abbey Theatre is exploring the meaning of home by inviting members of the public to send in a picture of the house they grew up in.

Given the play’s themes of emigration and homecoming, they are especially interested to receive pics from Irish emigrants.

A collection of photographs will be displayed at the Abbey for the duration of the production, and the best entry of the week will win tickets to see the show (which you can give to someone at home).

See the Abbey Theatre’s website for more information, or read the excellent programme note for The House penned by Belinda McKeon on Generation Emigration.

What does your family home mean to you now that you have left Ireland? Do you still return to it? Let us know in the comments section below.
