Have your say: Will The Gathering bring the diaspora home?

What do you think of The Gathering 2013? Would you visit Ireland or encourage those with Irish connections to visit next year because of it? Can the diaspora “help lift Ireland out of recession” as the Taoiseach said?

“Whether you’re Irish born, Irish bred or Irish in spirit, get involved & celebrate a year of Irish connections…”

A tourism initiative to entice people with Irish connections to visit Ireland next year was launched in Dublin castle last week.

The Gathering 2013 aims to attract an additional 325,000 tourists with Irish links here next year.

Speaking at the launch, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the initiative would help lift Ireland out of recession, and it was up to everyone to encourage the diaspora to visit next year. “Bring them home. Treat them well. The Gathering is ‘Project Ireland’. Do your bit,” he said.

What do you think of the initiative? Would you visit Ireland or encourage those with Irish connections to visit next year because of it? Can the diaspora “help lift Ireland out of recession” as the Taoiseach said? If so, what is your “ultimate Gathering”?
