Donegal were installed as hot favourites ahead of their 2012 All Ireland clash with Mayo. The northerners scored 2-1 in the first 11 minutes, although Mayo rallied and came to within three points of Donegal by half time. Despite Mayo’s best efforts, however, Donegal held out to claim the Sam for only the second time in their history.

Footballer Damien Duff (33) has retired from the Republic of Ireland team. Duff, who captained the national side when winning his 100th cap against Italy at Euro 2012, follows Shay Given into retirement from international football.
