  • Julia Restoin Roitfield shows us how pregnancy posing is done

    May 8, 2012 @ 7:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Seriously – this is how to do a pregnant magazine cover. Take note, Demi, Britney (and again), Jessica, Claudia, Chrisina . . . the list goes on. All of those ladies pale in comparison with the austere beauty of this Mario Sorrenti image. I, for one, have had a rethink of my whole stance on nude pregnancy covers. (Yes, I know how ridiculous that sentence is.) Good day to you!

  • Bikinis on the beach – a Miami shoot by Daniel Holfield, styled by Courtney Smith

    May 7, 2012 @ 3:28 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

If you got yesterday’s LIFE magazine with your Sunday Independent you’ll already have seen the fabulous shoot styled by Courtney Smith and photographed by Daniel Holfield, with hair and make-up by Melissa Conner and modelled by the gorgeous Gabrielle at Elite Model Management Miami. I love the acid brights – and it’s hard not to like a shoot with a hot lifeguard in it, as well as two slightly disgruntled looking sunbathers.

All of the items in the shoot are from Arnotts and available now!

  • Sugar High by Mario Ardi for Design Scene

    April 26, 2012 @ 2:30 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

I love this sweeter-than-candy shoot. There’s something so 1990s Just Seventeen magazine about it, from the perfect pink lips to the straight brows and the just perfect hair! I love that her hair doesn’t look real; it looks as if it’s been coated in candy floss. Amazing shoot for Design Scene.

  • Coast best-dressed lady on opening day of Punchestown – Naoise Pelin

    April 25, 2012 @ 1:06 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Coast is sponsoring this year’s best-dressed lady competition at Punchestown race course, and when I spoke to Sinéad Whelan of Aurora Fashions earlier this month she told me they would be looking for something a little more down-to-earth than in previous years. Less cash and more charisma, perhaps; more realistic, bargain-hunting fashion and people who have a lot of style on perhaps a low budget.

So Athy’s Naoise Pelin was the perfect choice for day one, dressed in a vintage dress, a hat she made herself, a Penneys bag and Fitzpatricks shoes, accessorised with an umbrella from Newbridge Silverware.

What do you think of Naoise’s race-day look?

  • Is this high fashion?

    April 17, 2012 @ 7:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

This pic of Hanne Gaby Odiele has done the rounds in a serious way since fashion week – apparently we’re meant to admire Hanne’s “killer” personal style and her “enviable” pins, and ignore the fact that she looks like a child dressed up in her mother’s sportswear.

I could write platitudes about how fashion needs to take some steps to show women who are women – and, in saying that, I’m not attempting to bash women who are naturally skinny – and stop promoting a body image that is, for 99 per cent of us, unattainable, not to mention harmful in and of itself. But I shall resist the urge and open it up to the floor: do these pictures say “fashion” to you? What do they say?

  • Terry Richardson shoots H&M’s Conscious collection

    April 16, 2012 @ 10:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

You can’t swing a cat these days without bumping into Terry Richardson – now the man with the devillish plan has turned his hand to H&M‘s Conscious collection, starring Constance Jablonski, Edita Villeviciute, Toni Garrn and Karmen Pedarru. See the rest of the shots here.

  • Justin Bieber gets beat up real good for Complex magazine

    April 8, 2012 @ 4:09 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

This shoot is one that has been making the rounds for a couple of days now, by Irish photography Tony Kelly (check out his Facebook page here) for Complex magazine, but warrants inclusion here because of (a) its tenuous links to fashion and (b) my unwavering love of Justin Beiber.

There’s something almost Sin City-esque about the graphic violence depicted in these photographs, and while I’m never one to glorify or attempt to make violence fashionable, I’ll have to admit to feeling a thrill at seeing images of Bieber so far removed from his usual squeaky-clean image – and so much more original than that sickly sweet Vanity Fair shoot. What do you think of this new edge? And of his new song?

  • STOP WHATEVER YOU’RE DOING because Beyoncé has a Tumblr!

    April 5, 2012 @ 5:11 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Beyoncé smiling! Beyoncé laughing! Beyoncé on holidays! Beyoncé and Jay-Z! OMG honestly I am officially obsessed. I will never get anything done again, ever. I think I am in love with her – oh, and I want her life. Amazing.

  • Irish model Laragh McCann in Elle France

@ 1:30 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Here’s Ireland’s own Laragh McCann in a dreamy, sensual lingerie editorial for Elle France, shot by Gemma Booth. I love the contrast between McCann’s childish facial features and her undeniably womanly body – though she’s slim, she has curves, which leaves this editorial just on the right side of teenage.

Check out the full shoot on Fashion Copious

I know, I know, it’s been an editorial-heavy day – check back soon for some relief in the form of a competition! (Oh, and have you entered the competition to win a Nokia Lumia 800 yet?) And if you’re really bored, you can follow me on Pinterest and Twitter and keep up with Fash Mob on Facebook!

  • Queen Chloe by Terry Richardson for Purple magazine

@ 10:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Despite my issues with Terry Richardson, I love this editorial with Chloe Sevigny for Purple magazine. It’s by turns tough and cute and sexy and interesting – and there’s a lot going on in each photograph, as well as it being really nicely styled. Top marks from Rosemary.
