The rainbow queen of fashion
God bless British Vogue!
I caught this snap of Snarni Vinson, the actress perhaps better known as Kellan Lutz’s girlfriend, Cassie in Home and Away or the female character in Step Up 3D which, I don’t care what you say, was a cinematic masterpiece, earlier today – and decided to check out the rest of her red-carpet appearances. I love her beachy hair here and her slightly-cooler-than-a-regular-LBD dress.
I’m similarly enamoured of her get-up here, for the Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 premiere. Red is a daring choice for a woman who has nothing to do with the movie, but there’s something about Sharni’s totally honest smile that I love. She seems like she’d be great craic (and for the record, I thought that when she was in Home & Away AND when she was dancing her way through Step Up 3D).
In fact, looking through images of her red-carpet appearances, I found it hard to find one where she looked bad. Granted, her dress at the Nylon party was a bit mad, but it is Nylon and I can see how a young actress would feel a lot of pressure to look “cool” – and I don’t love her dress for QG’s Men of the Year party (bottom right) in Australia recently, but I think that’s due to its length and ageing qualities more than anything else. It is a classy look and would suit her if she were, oh, five years older. Then I found this – a belly top!
And oh, how I laughed! Until I realised that she was at a dance event (for which the uniform seems to be: baggy trousers and a belly top), and that she has the most amazing stomach since Britney phase 1, and that, had I that stomach, I would never cease wearing belly tops and I thought: carry on, Sharni, you’re doing just fine. (And ignore the Daily Mail; I personally think that, while you are very slim, you are muscly-slim, so I forgive you.)
So, as you’ll all know from reading last week’s blog post about the Irish Grand National, Michelle O’Connor won the title of Carton House Most Stylish Lady on the day, as judged by Rosanna Davison and Brendan Courtney. I asked her a few questions about her race-day style and Michelle was good enough to answer them for me!
How many florals are too many? According to W magazine‘s Bloom Town, that number doesn’t exist … Seriously in love with everything about this shoot, styled by Giovanna Battaglia and photographed by Sharif Hamza.
Taylor Tomasi Hill, my number one fashion idol (one of these days I’ll do a countdown, but it may take me a while as Clemence Poesy and Rachel Bilson fight one another, Gladiators-style), has had her New York home profiled by Vogue. (Do you see now why she is my numéro uno?) There is absolutely nothing about her home that I don’t like – I’ve spent a while gazing at these photographs and hoping that, right before the photographer came ’round, she bundled all of her excess stuff into black sacks and stuffed them under her four-poster.
Come on; where are Saturday’s papers, unread on Thursday and strewn all over the coffee table? Where are those four cups she kept meaning to put in the dishwasher and accidentally left beside the armchair? Where are the promotional leaflets that fell out of this month’s stack of magazines and the notice from her dry-cleaning company of that special offer they’re running this Friday? Where are her keys? Her glasses? Her YSL lipstick that she lost three weeks ago and keeps finding beside the TV before totally forgetting about it again? Seriously! This can’t just be me!
It’s images like these - taxidermied chicks an’ all – that make me want to get rid of all of my belongings and start afresh, with whitewashed walls and very little else. Sigh. Click through the photographs to see more, and prepare to get a serious case of life envy.
Pretty weather-appropriate for us Irish, no? Now, when will the high street start doing “versions” of those hats, please and thanks?
I’ve always thought of Louis Vuitton’s beige’n'brown monogram as the height of tack – but seeing it paired with Celine-esque florals has me watering at the mouth. Plus, who knew white trousers could be this far from Liz Hurley territory?!
How about you? Do you love or hate the LV?

It’s not always my first stop for interiors – no, that would be the Conran Shop at Arnotts, swiftly followed by my bank, sob - but Penneys‘ homewares have definitely taken a big step up in the world in the past year. These candy-sweet cushions and throws are available in February, with prices starting at just €5 for the bunting. (Has anyone noticed the rise of bunting? It’s frightening. Soon it’ll be carnevale all year ’round.)
That said, I don’t think they’d go with the eclectic, shabby-chic look I cultivate in my home – and did I mention I collect teapots? I’m an enigma wrapped up in a mystery, dontcha know!
Nothing makes you yearn for spring quite like pastels and Elle Fanning in these sugary, new season dresses by Rodarte couture is no exception. The shoot, by iconic photographer Bill Owens, is for a special edition of A Magazine curated by Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
But don’t get too excited about the collection just yet as it’s the first and last time it’ll be shot – it’s been acquired by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as part of their permanent collection (nooooooooo!). Fashion pervs with unrealistic bank balances – 0. Culture – 5,000,0000. Le sigh.

Just when I’ve got used to my hair being, well, a vaguely normal colour, and looking oh-so-nearly natural, here I find the most amazing blue / grey tinted hair on the Coco Fennell site. Swoon.
Love this Jessica Rabbit dress, which is currently on sale …
