  • Big days out – today’s fashion page

Did you catch it? And, more importantly, have you a fashion query I could answer? Email them to rmaccabe@irishtimes.com!

  • Yesterday’s column – any given Sunday

If you didn’t catch it, fear not! I am reproducing it here and then I am reproducing all of the little segments so you can see them! Well, except the one blazer five ways and the shoes, as they are as big above as they are getting.

    What do you think?

  • What I wore, May 6th, 2012

    May 7, 2012 @ 7:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

So it begins. I have this dream where, by the end of this month, I have got my boyfriend really interested in photography and, you know, hanging around with me 24/7 and I have amazing photographs like every single other blogger on the planet. For now I have to make do with dodgy photographs in my mirror and other dodgy photographs taken by iPhone in the splendid grounds of IMMA (not that you’d notice).

I know, the detail you can pick out is incredible. Well! I am wearing a blue floral printed dress by Penneys, black Acne-esque boots by SixtySeven at Buffalo, a black cardigan from Bershka, a black knitted vest from H&M, a Michael Kors watch, a just-seen belt from Asos and two pairs of tights from Marks & Spencer (because, sometimes, one just ain’t enough!). If you’re not bored to tears of looking at me by now, after the jump I have a bonus face of the day and another not-very-clear-either photograph of me in the great outdoors.

  • What I bought – the austerity edition

    April 23, 2012 @ 2:30 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Of late, I’ve noticed a definite change in my spending – although it’s not brought on by any huge change in my own fiscal situation, I’ve begun to err on the side of caution when purchasing rather than throwing all abandon to the wind and pressing “checkout” a couple of times a day. In part, I blame Pinterest for granting me the ability to “pin” things into my personal shopping list, to be reviewed at a later date; I also blame my OCD tendency to desire minimalism and Muji-esque zen in my living quarters (something I fear I am never to achieve); lastly, I suppose I could think myself to be maturing. I leave that until last as it seems most unlikely. In any case, here’s what I bought this week: practical, wearable, maybe unexciting? But already wardrobe staples, and isn’t that better than nothing?

Here’s a blurry dress from Marks & Spencer‘s petite range that I bought yesterday on Henry St. As I am not petite, it is somewhat sexier and shorter on me. But I love it. Worn today with pink tights, brown ankle boots and a brown belt. And, of course, a denim shirt. Here’s a close-up:

Stretchy, jersey material – and machine-washable! (I think I aged 20 years typing that sentence.)

Grey leather Converse from Office. Again, these aren’t about to knock anyone’s socks off but they’re a modern take on a classic – I took the chance to eschew regular canvas for high-class leather, and this slate grey was just begging to be taken home. I have a pair in navy but find they seem to jar with certain blue jeans … now, where did I put my Credit Union book?

  • Is Alesha Dixon the new Cheryl Cole, style-wise?

@ 10:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Alesha Dixon (seen here in Sass & Bide) has been rocking a serious number of cute, high-fashion-meets-street-fashion looks of late – and she seems to be knocking it out of the park each and ever time. Plus, y’all know how much I love a girl with curls.

    Here’s Alesha in Vivetta.

    And here in Acne!

This is still my favourite Alesha moment, and always will be; when this came out I was working in a clothes shop in the Stephen’s Green centre and we listened to this at least five times a day. I knew all the words. And I was so proud – plus, I was rocking a serious number of cropped T-shirts. Some things are meant to be forgotten.

  • Keira Knightley in print shocker

    February 20, 2012 @ 10:30 am | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

In a break from London Fashion Week coverage – because, you know, the world must go on – this photograph caught my eye during the week, of Keira Knightley wearing Mary Katrantzou and looking so, so good.

I love how young Keira looks in this printed dress from Mary’s S/S collection at the Venice Film Festival photocall for A Dangerous Method (which also looks great, and stars none other than Michael Fassbender, my current crush). It makes her look really young and fun, which are two adjectives I wouldn’t usually associate with her (miaow, I know).

What do you think? Do you love or hate Keira’s step into print?

  • Gillian Anderson in vintage Sybil Connolly at the BAFTAs

    February 17, 2012 @ 4:00 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Before we get all carried away with my thus far stellar London Fashion Week coverage, let’s take a look at last week’s BAFTAs, which went by in the blink of an eye, so much so that I almost missed Gillian Anderson wearing vintage Sybil Connolly, as pointed out by one of my painstaking Fash Mob readers. (But look, if you aren’t a fan on Facebook, you’re nobody to me.)

When I posted the pics on Facebook, Gillian’s dress divided people – but as it happens I love the salted caramel colour on her, and the shape – which, without the texture, may have been dull and, dare I say it, a little too Disney Princess for her.

    What do you think?

  • This season’s bargain must-have

    January 16, 2012 @ 4:30 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

From Penneys, €19, in stores at the end of March. You’re welcome.

  • Ringing in the new year …

    January 1, 2012 @ 7:05 pm | by Rosemary Mac Cabe

Last night I went to the Workman’s Club, stayed in the Morrison, laughed (a lot) with Ciara and listened to Le Galaxie. Wish I could do it all again tonight. Happy 2012 (which we’ve decided we’re calling twenty-twelve, at least for the next week or so, to see how it fits), kittens.
