Street style 2014: get the look
On-street pap snaps outside fashion shows can be inspiring, but also frustrating when you try to recreate a full Prada look on a 6 ft tall model – here are some high-street alternatives
I love looking at street-style images (is there anything better than sartorial voyeurism?) but I find the experience frustrating too; how can I get these clothes? Can I afford them? Why are all of the most-photographed street-style stars so darn good looking? Obviously, some of these questions will never be answered – but I’ve taken the liberty of selecting three of my fave recent street-style images from Grazia.it and putting them together with (mostly) high-street dupes, so that we can all (mostly) get the look.
I love this summery yellow dress, and though beige might not be the most obvious choice (I’d often be tempted to go for a darker contrasting shade), it looks very sweet and utterly seasonally appropriate. (On the feet? Try some Charlotte Olympia kitty flats.) Our dupes? Warehouse’s yellow printed dress, ASOS’s beige duffle coat (which is on sale right now) and Matthew Williamson’s €690 (cough) clutch. Nice.
I love Caroline Issa, ever since that time we had brunch, and I love block-colour dressing, so this look is gorgeous (and periwinkle blue is the new duck egg, dahling). Recreate it yourself with this Equipment shirt (possibly the exact shirt Caroline is wearing), ASOS’s cropped blazer and Chupi’s gorgeous cornflower-blue drop earrings from Coldlilies.
Do you find inspiration in street style, or are you tired of the genre?
