Peter O’Brien for Arnotts A/W 2013
The Irish designer has produced another collection of classic, cool and utterly covetable pieces
It’s better late than never, right?
Irish designer Peter O’Brien launched his A/W collection for Arnotts the week before last, to much pomp and ceremony in the Henry St department store.
As per usual with Peter’s designs, we’re looking at ladylike silhouettes in great fabrics with strong tailoring and a heavy emphasis on monochrome. (For form, see here.) This season’s highlights are, without a doubt, the tuxedo dress (above, which was a hit with the fashion press), the yellow bell-sleeved coat (so bright! so beautiful!) and the full leather A-line skirt, which is a wardrobe staple in the perfect length.
The super-ladylike and grown-up looks were modelled by Assets’ Abby Harris and Morgan the Agency’s Thalia Heffernan, two of the youngest guns on the circuit – which went a way towards showing how versatile the pieces can be.
In fact, all of Peter’s designs could be considered classic pieces in anyone’s wardrobe; it’s difficult to imagine him coming out with a trend-led collection, and that’s just one of the reasons his stuff is so popular.
