Ostwald Helgason S/S 2014 at NYFW: a riot of colour and pattern
Take note of this German-Icelandic design duo whose S/S 2014 collection is utterly adorable
You may not have heard of Ostwald Helgason, the German-Icelandic, London-based fashion brand that showed this weekend in New York, but this time next year we’ll all know (and we may just be sorry we didn’t snap up the remaining few S/S 2013 pieces in the Asos sale).
The duo’s S/S collection was typical enough of the Ostwald Helgason brand to be described as “signature” in style – bright, primary colours and vivid, playful prints in feminine shapes (a hint of Orla Kiely’s latest collection, perhaps?).
The presentation was also cute; labels aren’t often given time or space on the main catwalk schedule, so they opt to do a presentation – often these take the place of smaller, salon shows, or designers may do something vaguely theatrical (such as the aforementioned Kiely and her 1950s-style secretaries’n'typewriters at London last season).
And did I mention accessories? The minty-blue accents on these chunky shoes are, as Cheryl might say, right up my street. I’m praying that a variation comes to an & Other Stories near me soon.
