Last chance: the Pauric Sweeney sample sale

The Pauric Sweeney sample sale is on – and today’s the last day.

In fashion circles, the Pauric Sweeney sample sale has reached somewhat mythical proportions. Held twice a year in an apartment in Dublin 4, it’s the kind of thing that only those in the know hear about in time; the rest of us have to suffer through lunches with friends who bagged a Pauric Sweeney number at more than 50 per cent off.

So when this season’s sample sale rolled around, I was ready – in other words, I spotted it at the very last minute on the Pauric Sweeney Facebook page and decided there was no way I was missing out.

And I was in for a treat – the sale was held in Pauric’s own Donnybrook apartment, which is a visual feast in and of itself: animal skins, antique mahogany furniture, a gorgeous wrap-around balcony and a great spread of nibbles.

There were bags in each and every room, spread out on rails, stacked on couches, lined up on coffee tables and propped up on bookshelves, in a variety of fabrics and colours – leather, canvas and reptile skins.

And did I purchase? Yes – a beautiful black python skin bag, reduced from €1,300-odd to €550. Today’s the last day, and it is highly recommended.
