Brown Thomas launched its S/S 2013 collections last week with a brunch for Irish media in its designer showrooms. I spotted Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney having a scout through the rails, which were choc-full of bright and beautiful new duds for the year ahead. Sarah Morrissey, L’Or Mayo and Maria Boardman were on hand to model the latest fashions, raised above the hoi polloi on plinths so that we could have a good gawk.

Unlike previous seasons which have seen Brown Thomas hold a full-on fashion show (with thousands of looks to examine), this was an altogether more understated affair, with racks and moodboards laying out the season’s trends. We’re talking about heavy florals, oriental influences and block colours in every hue under the rainbow taking up space in Brown Thomas this season, as well as some seriously stunning accessories from the likes of Céline.

Of course, these clothes won’t be for everyone, financially speaking, so it will be more interesting for most of us to see how the high street interprets the bigger designers. Will Céline’s foldover handbag find its way to a Penneys near you? Will that floral suit turn up in Warehouse? Will Coast do a version of that fringed black dress, on a very comic-book-looking Sarah, above left? Only time will tell . . .

Are you excited by any of the season’s upcoming trends? (And are there any you hate? Let me know over on Beaut.ie!)
