I gave a talk in a marketing class last week about how consistency in blogging is key. “If your readers know they can rely on you to post regularly,” said I, “they’ll come back time and again”. Then I, er, took an unexpected vay-cay from blogging – and by “vay-cay” I mean, got caught up in thousands of pre-Christmas meetings, events, round-ups, did a bit of Christmas shopping and met up with as many people as I could before the festive madness begins. So in short: I apologise. You can rely on me, I swear.

I want to have a wee chat about sales: they’ve started already, and, online in any case, they are whopper. My faves so far: My-Wardrobe.com and Matches. I’m a bit peeved (I won’t lie) that several items I bought over this past season are already on sale online, and are likely to get further discounted. The shame! My top picks?

From My-Wardrobe (purchases I’ve actually made aside), these are my faves, and I’m surprised to see they’re all along the same colour palette – apparently The Devil Wears Prada had more of an influence on me than I thought. Burberry’s shoes are perennial favourites of mine, and these ankle boots are no exception. Slick, slick, slick. Reduced from €650 to €455. I’m really into jumpers right now, and this blue-purple chunky knit by Swedish label Acne is a stunner. €155 (was €220). Wrap dresses are the saviour of any semi-formal sartorial quandary, and 3.1 Philip Lim is my God, so it makes sense that I’d want this gorgeous sky-blue number. I’d add sleeves, myself, Phil, but otherwise this is perfection. Reduced from €553.50 to €387.46. Last but not least? A good coat these days is hard to find, so this leather-sleeved trench by Sophie Hulme is a catch and a half. Beautiful shade of blue to boot. Was €734.32, now €512.92.

And what about Matches? The sale here is kind of like what I’d imagine the Brown Thomas sale to be like, only with no pushing and a larger selection. They have everyone from Lanvin to Current/Elliott, Anya Hindmarch, Diane von Furstenberg and J Brand – as well as Mary Katrantzou, which is where I’ll start with my highlights (if you don’t mind). Katrantzou’s typewriter dress would be mine, were it not for the fact that my size is sold out. It’s been reduced from €648 to €453 and is surely one of the most iconic prints of this decade, if not this century so far. There’s a whopping 71% off Sonia Rykiel’s Dalmatian-print coat, which is so beautiful and whimsical – I love the loose sleeves and the standout collar. It’s now €168, from €574. Another big saving is to be made on Stella McCartney’s double-breasted jacket with stripe detail. It’s such a classic piece that it seems odd it should be discounted, but here it is with 70% off – reduced from €1,290 to €386. You’re basically saving enough for a new iPad, is how I look at it. Another 70% job is this stunning ruched detail printed dress by Burberry, which is no steal at €681, but a far cry from the €2,274 it was originally going for. Such a gorgeous dress – perfect for weddings!

So: see anything you like? Or are you holding out for one sale in particular?
