I have never been a big fan of John Rocha Jewellery. There, I said it. It’s almost style blasphemy to be an Irish fashion journalist who doesn’t love everything John Rocha does, but though I do worship at the altar of his couture offerings, his jewellery has never done it for me. It’s always struck me as being too clunky, too silver, too like Newbridge Silverware, of which I am not a fan (to add insult to injury).

But Rocha may just have converted me with this latest collection, rolling out in stores this week – this is the Little Bird collection, which features, well, little birds in sterling silver, rose gold vermeil and black rhodium on silver. Individually, they’re quite delicate, cutesy pieces – but I’m already imagining what these babies will look like, five to each finger with a bright pink polish. LOVE would be an understatement.

And that’s before we even get to the necklaces, which I’d love to stack up even higher – aren’t they just the cutest darned things? The best news of all is that pieces in the Little Birds collection start at €35 and go up to – wait for it – €120 for a rose gold vermeil pendant. I may just have to make an investment – after all, I learned just yesterday that gold is really holding its value. (Any excuse, wha?)

By the way, if you’re really bored and voyeuristic this weekend, I’ll be tweeting live from the Irish Tatler Women of the Year Awards on Saturday – so follow me @rosemarymaccabe or on Instagram (also rosemarymaccabe) for updates.
