If you hadn’t heard, hot young designer William Tempest has done a capsule collection for River Island, just in time for Christmas 2012 – and it fits. All 1920s silhouettes, heavy embellishment and in a palette of peach and black, with a beetle motif running throughout, the collection is suitably opulent for the festive season. The items are in-store and online now – although only in the Ilac Centre store, which is River Island’s Dublin flagship (which was news to me – I’d assumed it was Grafton!), and dresses will set you back from around €130.

I won’t be indulging – 1920s style drop waists really aren’t my thing – but I would love to get some of the artwork for my walls. It’s beautiful! I’ve never harboured dreams of being a fashion designer, but I would like to be able to draw like this. Imagine the doodles I could produce while I pretended to pay attention at meetings.
