Back on dry land after a truly relaxing fortnight in France (which you can be sure will be written about but, as per, you can catch up on Instagram (@rosemarymaccabe) and Twitter. (You may have noticed that Fash Mob has ceased tweeting – I know, crysies! – because, as Fash Mob’s only author, I was finding it a bit cross-purpose-y tweeting from both. So you’ll just have to put up with me.)
In any case, travelling, suitcase-lugging and Aircoaching has me all tuckered out, and in the frenzy of yesterday’s final relaxation and today’s travel mayhem, our weekend reading list was sadly overlooked. But without further ado:
Man repeller Leandra Medine wants to know if she likes the clothes, or just the label. Or are the clothes the label? Is the label the clothes? Fashion is confusing.
The Business of Fashion has a great op-ed on what exactly went wrong for Aquascutum – the heritage British brand whose star was plummeting without hesitation down to earth, while Burberry’s was firmly in the ascendant. What did the latter do right that the former overlooked? Great insights.
Cameron Diaz turned 40 and the Fug Girls wished her a happy one with a look at all of her fashion mistakes (ouch!) and triumphs. No points for spotting the breast augmentation – but it’s quite a trip down memory lane. Does anyone else remember loving her Breton tee / flared jeans / trilby combo?
In a tenuously-linked-to-fashion story, Azealia Banks called Amanda Brunker ignorant. On Twitter. This gave some serious LOLs over the past couple of days and, there’s no shame in admitting, one ROFL.
From Fash Mob’s very own archives, the Ilac Fash Dash is on. Have you got what it takes to win a Real Beauty Modelling competition? You can check out the entrants so far on the Ilac Shopping Centre’s Facebook.
Last, but by no means least, the Good Men Project (no fashion link here at all, sadly) published a piece on 25 rules for fathers raising daughters. Usually I dislike these gendered, instructional articles, but this one’s quite lovely indeed.
Now that we’re done with that tedious business, go forth and enjoy September! Full permission granted to start layering like nobody’s business and take out the opaque tights again (although maybe wait another week, because the forecast is actually quite good). Can you believe the summer is over? The Late Late starts again on Friday, but it’s not all bad TV news; we have Revenge, Hart of Dixie and Homeland all to look forward to, as well. Swings and roundabouts, kids, swings and roundabouts.
