This shoot, from Marie Claire magazine, was recently feature on Design Scene. You may not be able to read the subtitle on the shoot, but it says: “Real or faux, hyper colored or au naturel – go big and fluffy or go home this season.” What do you think about magazines, editors and stylists promoting the use of real fur?

I personally feel as if using fur, in itself, is not bad, per se. It’s not any worse, for example, than using leather, so long as the people involved are investigating where the fur came from and how ethically it was sourced. And those who say leather is a byproduct are fooling themselves; though leather may be, of course, a byproduct of the meat industry, it is also farmed for its leather and its leather only on farms specifically dedicated to the production of leather. Do you know which farm your boots came from? Similarly, I believe that if you are a meat-eater, you shouldn’t really complain about the fur industry. You kill animals to eat – and eating animals, in 2012, is entirely unnecessary. We have enough alternatives available to us that we could all be happily, healthy vegetarian. So that’s my two cents. What’s yours?
