Some easy weekend readin’ . . .

Just in case you’re the type of gal / guy who likes to spend their weekend at their computer, coffee at one elbow and iPhone at the other, rarely leaving the house or seeing the sun. Or, y’know, in case it rains! Here’s some weekend reading to keep your appetite for new information sated!
Fashion Etc. has put together a seriously peep-worthy selection of Condé Nast staffers’ salaries. It might just be me, but I always thought Vogue staff would earn more. Then again, that’s not counting any freebies or job “perks”. Press discounts are a very real thing, and in some cases, you’re not even expected to put your hand in your wallet. It’s a tough life!
I answered a few questions for Lorna of StyleIsle about my inspiration, my ambition, my life in fashion . . . I was afraid I’d come off like a bit of a w**ker (and maybe I did!) but I’m hoping it came across as being honest and, above all, realistic. I’m always happy to talk about where I am, how I got here and where I’m going, so feel free to ask at any stage if you want more info! This is a new feature of Lorna’s so I’m excited to see who’s coming next.
Speaking of interviews, Angela Scanlon answered a few questions for Metro UK about her style, make-up and fashion regrets. Watch out for some Miss Piggy, a mention of the hakka and a dungaree-related confession!
I met Victoria Beckham - and Harper! – on Wednesday (yes, yes, back to me) and wrote a bit of a tome about it for the blog. You can catch up on your Beckham before reading Deirdre McQuillan’s interview with the style icon in tomorrow’s Saturday Magazine (free with The Irish Times!).
The National Eating Disorder Information Centre has come up with some seriously original advertising; Fashion Foie Gras writes about the revolutionary statement of asking passersby to “shed their weight problem” by binning their women’s glossy magazines. Do you think magazines are largely to blame for eating disorders? Weigh in (sorry, couldn’t resist!) on the debate over at FFG.
The news that Dr Martens – remember when I went on a tour of their UK factory? – has seen its bestselling season ever, in the midst of the worst recession in (most people’s) living memory comes as no big surprise to me. The brand has been doing some really clever things, and I’m not just talking about sucking up to bloggers: Liberty prints, rehashing old designs and getting Agyness Deyn on board, to name but a few.
Phew! Read anything you found interesting this week? Let me know in the comments and have a great weekend, whatever you do with it.
