At Wimbledon: Victoria Beckham and Kate Middleton – with bonus Pippa!

I know, I know, I should have been paying attention to the actual tennis; instead I was preoccupied with the sartorial war being played out on the sidelines, by none other than Victoria Beckham and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Victoria arrived with husband David – and, sadly, no Harper – in a dress and bag from her Victoria Beckham label. I couldn’t see her shoes, but I’d take a (fairly safe) guess that they were her favourite YSL Tribute heels.
I love VB’s simple covered ponytail and the teal shade of her dress, and actually I found myself admiring her determined non-smiling throughout the entire game, while David seemed positively jovial beside her. That’s commitment.
Young Catherine, on the other hand, broke no new ground with her entirely non-descript cream dress and jacket combo, although she did jazz things up slightly with a Diane von Furstenberg clutch bag, the Lytton, which my sister designed when she was accessories designer at the US fashion house, and named after our paternal grandmother! Get that for a tenuous claim to fame.
Bland dress suits aside, I was glad the duchess was in attendance, if only so we could see her make the following facial expressions:
I wonder if they have arguments about who has the better hair? (My money’s on Kate for that, by the way; see how bouncy and light-reflecting it is! I wonder if L’Oreal have approached her to do a shampoo ad yet. Can you imagine!)
Y’know, happy Monday to boot. The start of a whole new week! Sorry about my absence over the past fortnight; I was sick and then – so you don’t feel too sorry for me – in New York. Peace out!
