Yesterday, Brown Thomas held its S/S show in its designer showrooms, where we were treated to tea, coffee, orange juice (it was the morning, after all) and mini Danishes (my fave!) – before getting a preview of what’s in store for those with the cash to spend on luxury labels such as Lanvin, Chloe and Victoria Beckham.

Overall the show really brought home the concept of S/S 2012: relaxed elegance. Whether in androgynous shapes from Celine or ladylike cuts by Lanvin, prints by Stella McCartney or Mary Katrantzou, fits and silhouettes are more relaxed, shapes are loose (even from Victoria Beckham) and fabrics are natural – silk featured really strongly in almost every collection. I think it’s a reflection of the economic times, in a way; we’re all relaxing into the new reality, in a way, and finding a way to make it through without the pressures of yore.

I didn’t bring a camera as I was rushing / disorganised / catastrophically bad at my blog responsibilities, but luckily for us all, Emma did! So here are her pics:

Young Thalia here opened the show – here she is in a dress from Peter Pilotto‘s new collection. (Did you spot her in the Magazine before Christmas, talking about what she was wearing on the big day?)

This gorgeous cat-print shift is from the Victoria by Victoria Beckham collection, new to BT this season. Worn with YSL Tribtoo shoes in true VB style.

A beautiful Stella McCartney printed top … The prints are gorgeous but remind me of Christopher Kane‘s last collection – is Stella losing her edge?

This dress is by Jay Ahr, another new and little-known label that does gorgeous, romantic fabrics with quite a tough edge.
