So, before London Fashion Week madness begins (well as it happens, right at this very minute I am at the Paul Costelloe show, possibly sitting next to Mila Kunis* and chatting over canapés with Kate Bosworth) I may as well fill you in on Wednesday morning’s Coast A/W press preview on Stephen’s Green.
I’ll admit, it’s not a shop (I need to stop saying “store”, so American) I would frequent too often – mostly because I’m not a very formal gal, and I never, ever, go to black-tie “do”s, but this is actually a bit of a misconception, because Coast, judging by Wednesday morning’s offerings, does quite a lot of what I would term “chic everyday wear”. What do I mean by that? Well, interesting, tailored items that you could as easily wear to the office as to the pub (probably not just “your local”, mind) after work for a few G&Ts.
I was struck, for example, by the sweet embellishment on this mink woolen cardigan – perfect for A/W’s restrained elegance.
And again, this mink-toned ruffled dress with black hemline (amazing photography I know) would be perfect for the office and a glamorous drink or two. Or, you know, the cinema. Or food, if you don’t want me going on about alcohol all the time.
This coat was absolutely gorgeous, just FYI. It didn’t photograph as beautiful as it is, so let me tell you; that black piping is actually leather, and I really appreciate a collarless coat, be-times. All the easier to wear scarves with, y’know!
But of course Coast still has a huge selection of “fancy” dresses; it’s the bread-and-butter of the company, which turned 15 this year, incidentally! And there are some real corkers. The photocall shots don’t include my personal favourite (which is not on the website but is a similar shape to this lovely, with a floral embellished neckline), and I suspect I may need to go and buy it for myself, but they do include a fair selection. Behold:
But tell me: do you shop in Coast? Have you ever? Do you know anyone who shops there regularly, for a lot of their clothes? I’ve always thought of it as occasionwear only, but my little tour the other day made me think there may be a whole legion of savvy shoppers who buy their office gear in Coast and just don’t tell anyone else about it . . .
* Quite unlikely.
** Canapés? Even less likely.
