I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention for the past, oh, 12 months, but nails have suddenly become big business. From feeling like painted nails was the exception, rather than the rule, talons have taken centre stage and are often a carefully considered part of an ensemble. For my part, I am entirely rubbish at painting my nails, relied for a while on Sally Hansen Salon Effects stick-ons (to my detriment), and am now determined to bring my nails up to scratch (har, har) by treating ‘em well and then slathering them in whatever colour Chanel says is “on trend”.

I’ve also started paying an inordinate amount of attention to nail “trends”, helped in no small part by my following The Alpha Nail on Twitter and Facebook, and getting really into the idea of having crazy out-there nails . . . in fact, tonight I may just paint a set of falsies and apply ‘em tomorrow hoping they’ll last a week of meetings and work before – wooooot – London Fashion Week next week!

Here’s just a selection of looks she worked on over the past week, in her regular haunt in 9 Crow St in Temple Bar. (If you’re looking for an amazing fur coat, that’s where you want to look, incidentally!)

Former Miss Ireland Emma Waldron‘s mixed-up mani!

Galaxies – my faves! They’re seriously amazing, I am definitely going to go for them next time.

A pick ‘n’ mix selection!

Oh, and if you’re wondering about upcoming nail trends, wonder no longer – nail guru Sophy Robson (Aoife of The Alpha Nail’s idol) predicts it’s all about the matte, and I love the old-fashioned oval shape of these nails.

Just gorgeous!
