If you missed last week’s guest post, by Lorraine H, check it out here – but for today there’s a post by Rhona Nolan of Rose-Tinted Uncertainty, who blogs about fashion and all things . . . well, I am loathe to say plus-sized, but about fashion for the woman who might not be sample sized. I love her vintage-inspired look, and her post kind of explains her influences. Behold!
Why I love . . . Vivien of Holloway.
Well, I don’t know about you, but there are days when I feel like I was born in the wrong decade. There are days when I want to throw on that full-skirted wonder and float into extravagant restaurants and dine like they did in those beautiful black & white movies. Dance with dapper men and drink martinis ’til dawn.
But, unfortunately, if I wished to buy real vintage dresses I would be left with a sour taste in my mouth – vintage dresses for the fuller-figured lady seem to be very rare and, therefore, unnaturally expensive. So I had to come to terms with the fact that I would never be able to fulfill my dreams of dressing like they do in the movies.
That was until I discovered, my heroin, Vivien of Holloway: a shop that designs dresses in the style a bygone era, in a large range of sizes (well, I should say measurements, because they don’t deal in sizes). Their dresses range from full skirted to pencil skirted, and even a gorgeous and exotic sarong style. They come in a wide variety of beautiful and kooky patterns as well elegant satin. Not only do they stock dresses to die for but they also sell skirts, trousers, shorts, tops and even accessories such as petticoats (for that full look) and flowers for your hair. For me, it truly is shopping heaven and I have often spent my time browsing their website looking at their beautiful collection. And what’s even better is the fact that the prices are not out this world so this style really is within your reach.
The best thing about Vivien of Holloway is how their dresses make you feel. Not just ladylike but womanly. You discover amazing curves you never knew you had and will catch the eye of every passerby. As I read from another happy customer, Vivien of Holloway dresses are not just dresses, they are confidence-boosters – and I truly believe this.
