You know, I almost spelled that “sneak peak”, such is the quality of my brain these days. Last week, I went along to Oasis‘s flagship store on St Stephen’s Green to take a look at what the UK retailer had on offer for A/W 2011. Much as I am loathe to discuss autumn duds, especially when the sun is splitting the skies, I will call it as I see it and say: high-street luxe.

This season, the UK brand had gone for a real mix in fabrics and textures, mixing tweeds and velvets in with corduruoys, suedes and leathers – in particular a short, pleated leather skirt had me quite enthused – and throwing in some eye-catching limited edition prints, along with (but of course) some not-going-anywhere-fast colour blocking.

This jacket really stood out to me; I love the mannish shape, the basic of the tweed – no glitter or unnecessary embellishment here – and the lapels. It’s that kind of old-school heritage that I feel A/W collections should really be about. I’d pair this with leather leggings and super-high wedges, and little else.

Then the bags, in gorgeous autumnal colours, reminded me of early autumn spent on a farm – obviously something I’ve seen in the movies, as my childhood was hardly that idyllic – and ladylike fashions, maybe early 1950s style.

Plus, the tassle detail on the handbags is very Diane von Furstenberg!

All items will be available from late August / early September.
