Yigal Azrouel isn’t someone whose designs – or, let’s face it, name – I’d be overly familiar with. As I’ve blogged more here, and written about fashion for our features pages and the Saturday magazine, somehow my awareness has shifted from high fashion to more high street clothing, more trend-led stuff, rather than focusing on the catwalks. But when I saw this in NY magazine over the weekend, it resonated with me somehow in that clean cut way (can we see Zara doing a good job imitating Azrouel, come 2012?).

The split-side maxi strikes me as a new take on a trend that is not going anywhere, and I love the cream suit in the bottom centre photograph, not to mention the lace detailing on the black pieces. I think that’s something I really love about fashion: when designers take one motif and run it through an entire collection, so that the pieces can exist on their own but also go together and always stand out as being of that particular designer. Lovely.

Tomorrow you’ll see a very different resort collection, and then on Thursday we’ll have a pop quiz! (Not really.)
