As the holiday season rolls around, we’re repeatedly told of the best “cover-ups” for the beach. Here’s the bikini you should wear, but in case you’re feeling coy around midday, you can cover it up with this great kaftan! It’s a prescription that, at the very least, succeeds in brainwashing us; I won’t pack my beach bag without throwing in a cover-up or two, along with a good book (next week’s will be Franzen’s Freedom, for my sins) and some suncream. I can’t go for a hat because of my curls – hats are not my friends.

Anyway it made me think about swimwear, because I think cover-ups are only really necessary if you’re a bikini girl. If you go for swimsuits, you don’t need to worry about covering up, really, although there is an argument to be made for popping over to the poolside cafe at lunchtime without needing to get entirely dressed, and a kaftan does serve that purpose. In any case! Here are some cover-up options from Heatons, no less.

I really like these! Were I not on a summer shopping ban, I would totally hit up Heatons for some beachwear. I especially like the polka dot bikini, although I suspect it may not be my boobs’ friend, and I love the sandals in the first pic. Check back around midday for a selection of swimwear from Arnotts, and a Forever 21 update later on this afternoon. I know, excitement!
