This past week, Chanel (courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld) presented its Collection Croisiere collection during the Cannes Film Festival. It’s a type of cruise collection for the French fashion house, and was well attended by celebrities and rich French people alike. I realise that this is the first high fashion post I’ve done in a while, as I was sorely tempted to dwell on the celebrity attendants. Instead I’ll go half and half, and start off with the collection itself:

Kaiser Karl is said to have described the collection as being an easy luxury – the embodiment of Cannes itself, where women wear pearls with their swimsuits. I quite like the idea of wearing pearls with my swimsuit, I won’t lie. I may try to pilfer some pearls from somewhere before I head off . . .

I love the collection, too. It’s very old-school Chanel with the monochrome theme, tweeds and low-cut swimsuits, not to mention the drop-waists on the longer dresses. It’s very elegant, but quite wearable (price tag notwithstanding). I’d love to see the high street adapt these looks into their own late summer collections. Want to see what the celebs wore? See after the jump!

Ah, Clemence, how I miss you since you left Gossip Girl. She was really a breath of normality in that show, which seems to veer dangerously close to pantomime levels the rest of the time.

Laura Bailey, Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevigne . . . yawn.

Apparently that’s a skort. Yes, you read me. A SKORT.

Very classic from Bilson, saved by the way her ombré is really going the distance for her.
