This February’s copy of UK Elle comes with none other than the UK’s sweetheart on its cover – wearing, in my opinion, a great look. I love the fierce cheekbones (but behold the vulnerability of hand touching face), and I think the neutral looks great on her. Plus, Elle always seems a little classier than other magazines, in its ability to make a really great, eyecatching cover with just enough information on it, without screaming from the newsstand.

Compare that with Cheryl’s cover of UK Vogue, in October of last year:

I know that “our Cheryl” was going through a tough time towards the tail end of 2010 (weren’t we all? Well, all of us except Stephen, whose star is most definitely in the ascendant) but this little-girl-lost look just jars with me. It’s not that I need my women to be looking sexy ‘n’ tough, 24/7 – but Cheryl strikes me as the sexy-tough type, if that makes sense. I don’t really need to see her “sensitive” side when all of her marketing and personal appearances have her firmly in the “smart girl, can look after herself” bracket.

So tell me, which do you prefer? And if Cheryl is the UK’s sweetheart, who’s ours?
