To reward its friends (and their families), American Apparel on Grafton St is tonight opening its doors from 7pm to 10pm with a 30 per cent discount on American Apparel products, and 50 per cent off selected items.

Never wanting to speculate on the financial business of Ireland’s fashion stores, I’ll not suggest that this might be desperate measures for desperate times . . . actually I won’t, because American Apparel does this every year, right before Christmas, and I think it’s a really commendable night. I won’t be making it in this evening, but if I was, I’d be picking up the shawl cardigan and possibly some loose tees and vests (they were my summer festival staples for 2010 and I can’t expected 2011 to be all that different, unless I lose five stone and start wearing playsuits during the day).

I think the American Apparel store in Dublin has had a few problems in that it might not be quite as accessible as it could be. I always loved going into the stores in the US, but here I find it just that little bit intimidating. I don’t know if it’s because all the hipster kids are so, well, hip – or maybe it’s the fact that I’ve got less hip . . . no, that can’t be it.

What say you? Have you been in? Do you love? Do you hate? Will you be heading in tonight?
