I’d love to be organised to do a weekly fashion news digest, but sadly, my time is taken up with finding discounts and such to present you (my humble readers) with. Now, however, I have some news! It may not be that new, I’m warning you now.
Hermes has set up a website where it features street-style photography of people donning Hermes items. Hello, the youth of today, Hermes has come to join you! It’s a cunning move by the French mega-brand, and one that will move them into the realm of Mulberry (perhaps). Watch this space . . .
Tavi has styled a photoshoot for BlackBook. Can this 14 year old do no wrong? (Also, she can’t be 14 forever – when will she age?!) NY mag points out that the model she’s styling is a year older than her. Madness.
American Eagle is the latest American mega-store to announce that it is closing 50 to 100 stores. Will Abercrombie & Fitch be next? Or Dov Charney’s American Apparel? There’s a more involved question in there, about whether or not the world is over wanting to buy the American dream (although that doesn’t explain the continuing survival and prosperity of Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger), or whether the demographic of American Eagle et al is just that little bit young – do the youngsters still have the money?!
Kate Moss is to end her design partnership with Topshop, after three years designing a capsule range for the British retailer. Do we care? Not quite sure. Her more recent collections have lacked the lustre of the first, although that may just have been for the novelty value. I’ve never been blown away by la Moss, and it’s no secret that she’s stylish because of how she puts things together, not because of the individual items she wears.
