I truly, honestly believe that trousers are one of the most difficult items of clothing to wear well – with shorts coming in a close second. While dresses are the easy one-item-makes-an-outfit failsafe, trousers need to be accessorised, and they need to fit well, neither of which are simple tasks (it’s the big things in life that concern me, obviously).

And when it comes to finding out how to style items that are difficult, I can honestly say that magazine editorials just don’t provide any respite for me. It’s street style shots that I turn to if I really want to be inspired, because photoshoots are such a long, laborious process – complete with exact fittings, pinnings and then, of course, the dreaded photoshop. Street shots are, by comparison, entirely natural – well, aside from the fact that most subjects seem impossibly stylish already (le sigh).

Anyway, my mission this summer is to find some decent pairs of trousers: well-fitting, stylish, versatile. Surely that’s not too much to ask?
