The news that Topshop is to launch a range of make-up isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it will surely thrill those of you who spend every Thursday evening poring through the racks (and there are a lot of you; attempting movement in there is like that scene in Friends where Monica’s at the wedding dress sale).

The make-up is tipped to start at £4 (which means, surely, that the minimum spend on our shores will be around €6.50) – and Topshop will release seasonal specials in on-trend colourways, which is a very clever method of ensuring there will always be something new to look at.

Without getting one’s grubby paws on the range, first impressions are middling. There hasn’t been a huge amount of expense put into the packaging, although there’s no denying that the minimalist design is pleasing to the eye, in a very basic way. And I have strong suspicions that Topshop wouldn’t put what is arguably the biggest name in high-street fashion on a make-up range that wasn’t up to par. Only time will tell – May 5th, I’ll be waiting . . .
