When I was doing my MA thesis (on how women conspire to oppress women in women’s magazines – phew!), I read an awful lot about how advertisements will play very carefully on the idea of a tough, girly woman. She might wear leather, but her boobs will be on show and her hair will fall in tumbling cascades onto her shoulder. She might wear biker boots, but with a floral dress and legs a-plenty; she may ride a motorbike, but she’ll be doing it in a wedding dress. It’s a very careful way of saying, you can have power – but not too much (heaven forbid) because you’ll lose your “femininity”! What rubbish.

Those issues aside, I think this is a really great get-up, in Spanish Vogue.
