The folks at Arcadia are generally pretty amazing at getting it right – whatever “it” may happen to be – with their model shots for both Topshop and Topman. So this shoot comes as no surprise, but it’s still managed to be damn impressive. Moody lighting, James Dean hair, that nonchalant expression that Topshop’s models have down to a T . . . but is it just me who wishes they would increase their model age by, oh, just a few years? Perhaps 19 could be a happy medium. Instead, the models consistently resemble youngsters just in their teens.

It would be interesting to know what Topshop’s average age demographic is, although Stephen’s Green on a Saturday morning might be a sad indicator that I’m living in my youthful past. Back to the shoot:

Like any shoot, the outfits comprise pieces that alone, any discerning gentleman could fit into his wardrobe. I’m not sure, however, whether this styling would entice or alienate the Irish gentleman. He might love each and every piece, were he to see them hanging on rails instore, but will he see these images and think, “God, no, not for me”? Answers on a postcard.
