This shoot has already been everywhere, but as I’ve just watched this interview, I thought I’d repost it.

There’s a bit that I have to say about her interview, even though it’s only 4 minutes and 30 seconds long (watch it, it’s interesting). Firstly, she comes across very well. She seems, although I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising, just like a girl, any girl, talking to a friend. But fashion is not an elite sport; a model’s job is not to be thin. You don’t model by being thin, although bodybuilders bodybuild by being muscley – there’s an essential difference that Kershaw has missed there. Models at the moment are very thin, sometimes excessively so, but it wasn’t always like this, and I don’t think anyone would argue that the supers of the 1990s (most of whom were at least two sizes larger than Kershaw) were bad models because of it.

Secondly, nudity is not an imperative part of fashion. Fashion is clothing; fashion is artistic expression through fabric, through couture. Artistic expression through nudity is art, and while fashion may be art, the reverse is not always true, and I see little place for nudity in fashion shoots (take note, Katie Grand).Images via Fashion Gone Rogue (more images there).
