Last week, I got to try out The Body Shop‘s latest fragrance offering in the form of a gift set of Love Etc, the store’s new fragrance, retailing at €30 for the set.

When I was younger, I was the frequent recipient of fragrance gift sets from well-meaning aunts and uncles at Christmas-time and, I have to say, I was quite an ungrateful little thing – usually discarding the shower gels and body lotions, and keeping the fragrance. It was only last year, when I received a gift set of Thierry Mugler‘s Angel for my birthday that I first tried out the body lotion and, from me to you, it makes such a difference to the staying power of your fragrance. I have never received so many compliments on a fragrance as I have when I layer body lotion and fragrance, and I noticed myself that the fragrance was still there on the way home.

Love Etc is obviously a timed release, for Valentine’s Day (and I’m deliberately a little late on that; presents ain’t just for V Day!), but I would recommend it as being more appropriate for a teenager’s birthday or Christmas gift. It’s quite a sweet fragrance, with jasmine, vanilla (the sweet side) and sandalwood, which gives it quite a warm undertone – not for those who favour masculine fragrances, this is definitely a feminine scent. And, when fragrances can cost anything from €50 to €90 (and more), it’s a bargainous one too. It might not be as sophisticated as some scents, and it may not look as impressive on a bathroom shelf, but it’s got that cute factor and is a really nice gift idea – plus, readily available in Body Shop stores and selected pharmacies.
