Alila Boutique in Dublin 2 is having a huge sale, to get rid of last season’s stock and get ready for the season to come. (Out with the old and in with the new, and so on.) But I really don’t see a whole lot of the sale merchandise as being last season; hello, studs? Hello, candy-coloured heels? Hello, ankle boots! (Which are not going away, despite their hatred of my ankles, and vice versa.)

This is kind of an odd collage to me, because nothing goes together – but that’s kind of the joy of it. There are several pieces there that I would die to get my hands on (hello, pink and green T-bar sandals, would you like to be mine?!), and there are also very serious formal pieces, which would be perfect for a wedding or, um, a wedding. I can’t think of anything else I would dress that formally for, but I’m sure people have far more glamorous lives than I do, wherein they dress formally every three days!

The details? Let’s do a shoes, dresses thang: the Ugg-alike boots are by Koolaburra and, while we all give out about how awful Uggs are, they are the comfiest things in the world – these are studded, and are €120 (reduced from €350). The pink and green sandals are €119 (reduced from €400), the gold ankle boots are €149.99 (from €425), the monochrome ankle boots are €149.99 (from €400) and the pink snakeskin Mary-Janes are just €50.

In the dress stakes, the green maxi dress (centre, left) is €99 (from €470), the floor-length pink embellished gown is €150 (from €500), the pink cotton dress in the centre, which I am quite fond of – imagine with slouchy grey boots and chunky jewellery – is €90 (from €300), the art deco dress is €60 (from €200) and the navy dress (top, second from left) is €99 (from €450).

I’ve never actually been into Alila, due to a combination of buying cheap and cheerful far too often and the aforementioned dearth of formalwear emergencies, but several of my friends report great service and really lovely stuff. So check it out – but be quick, because the sale is only on this Saturday and Sunday (February 6th and 7th). As I will be in Paris (poor me!), someone will have to get me those shoes for my birthday (ahem!). Bisous!
