Despite my animal-loving self, I quite like the look of a bit of fur. My first preference would be faux (I recently purchased an amazing white leopard-print jacket by Silence & Noise), followed by vintage, and I don’t think that I would ever buy new real fur, given the hideous ways it’s farmed, but is there a strong argument that says wearing fur of any kind is fostering, if not creating, a fashion trend?

I’m not for a second suspecting that my wearing a faux fur jacket, or a vintage wolf fur scarf (which I own and is amazingly warm but kind of creeps me out – and no, I didn’t buy it) is going to mean a rush on buying in Barnardo’s, but when I see people like Betty decked out in fur, faux or no, it does make me think “wow, that’s pretty chic”. (But then again, Betty is Francaise and everything looks chic on those Frenchies.)

What do you think? To fur, or not to fur? And would you buy new fur? A part of me doesn’t really understand why we object to skinning mink for jackets, but will happily lay mouse traps in every corner of our houses, mouse traps that crush said mice to death in what is surely not a very humane manner.
