They say that the last day of the season always throws up a surprise or two and while most the places that mattered had already been decided there was still one surprise to be found on the final day of fixtures.
In Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge of United against West Brom we could have been forgiven for thinking that it was going to be a rather dull affair with United the likely victors with a 2-0 or 2-1 scoreline, boy oh boy were we mistaken.
There is no way anyone could have predicted that the game would finish in a 5-5 draw and there is certainly no way that anyone could have predicted that Romelu Lukaku would pick up a hat-trick especially given the fact he didn’t even start the game.
In what was likely his last game for the Baggies the on loan Chelsea striker was relegated to the bench by Steve Clarke as the Champions came to town and with many fantasy managers backing United for a clean sheet this news would have come as a welcomed surprise.
United were 3-1 up by half time and when Lukaku came on at half time you could not have imagined that we were going to see six goals in the second half of the game but we did.
Lukaku’s hat-trick will certainly have wet the appetite of Chelsea supporters who will be looking forward to seeing if he can produce some more of his magic at the Bridge next season, but with Ba and Torres already there fantasy managers may see a lot less of the highflying Belgian next season.
