With this week’s player and captain tips out of the way it is time for us to have a look at all the news from this morning’s press conferences as we try and gleam some sort of understanding about how the teams will line up this weekend.
We start this weekend’s team news off at Villa Park where Paul Lambert has said that Matt Lowton is facing a late fitness test, while Karim El Ahmadi and Ciaran Clark are both still out of action and will not be back in time to face Chelsea. Lambert is not the only one with injury concerns ahead of the clash at Villa Park with Rafa Bentiez admitting he still has a slight concern over the fitness of Eden Hazard, Rafa has told us that:
“Yesterday he was limping a bit, but I think he will be fine”.
This news will somewhat inconvenience fantasy managers with a vested intrest in the Belgian but hopefully he will start against Villa. The intrim Chelsea Boss also admitted that Frank Lampard will start this weekend stating:
“Lampard will play against Aston Villa, and after we have to decide the team for the final.”
Over at the Britannia Tony Pulis has said that he will make a decision over the next 48 hours over the fitness of Glen Whelan, the Irish international is suffering from a lack of match fitness having missed out last weekend’s game with Sunderland through injury. While Tottenham boss Andrea Villas Boas has siad that Moussa Dembele will be ok to face the Potters at the Britannia this weekend.
David Moyes has no new injury concerns ahead of his last home game in charge of the Toffee’s this weekend, while the visitors West Ham also have a clean bill of health heading into the game at Goodison this Sunday. Another side with no new injury worries are Fulham, Martin Jol has told us that Mladen Petric is fully fit and in contention for the weekend. Their opponents Liverpool will be without the injured Steven Gerrard for the game at the Cottage, with manager Brendan Rodgers stating that Jonjo Shelvey will replace the Liverpool skipper this weekend in the middle of the park.
Rodgers told his pre-match press conference at Melwood:
“Jonjo is a talented player. He is a young player that came here with big expectations and it’s sometimes difficult, but I think he has played quite a lot this year.”
“He’ll come into contention to play, as will some of the other players who have been outstanding in training and trying to demonstrate they want to be in the team.”
This news means that we could well see some squad rotation in the Liverpool line up over the last two games, but with Suarez still banned Daniel Sturridge’s place in the side looks secure.
Chris Hughton has been handed some good news ahead of his sides important clash with West Brom. Hughton told reporters at his pre match press conference that “Robert Snodgrass will be fine” for the weekend, but that Michael Turner will not make it back in time to face the Baggies. West Brom will have to wait and see if both Chris Brunt and James Morrison will be fit to face the Canaries, Steve Clarke told the waiting press “Chris Brunt (knee) trained today, James Morrison (bruised toe) didn’t train. I don’t envisage any injury problems at weekend.
There was some interesting news coming out of Swansea a little earlier today with reports suggesting that Michu could make a surprise return this weekend to face Manchester United despite the fact that he had been previously ruled out for the rest of the season. While it is still unclear whether or not we will see Michu this weekend he return could well spoil the retirement party at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The last piece of injury news this week comes from St James Park where Alan Pardew has said that both Moussa Sissoko and Shola Ameobi have been ruled out of last two games of season. This news means that Hatem Ben Arfa will continue in the hole behind Cisse this weekend when they travel to QPR.
