This week has been dominated by the News that Sir Alex Ferguson is leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season and David Moyes has been appointed to replace the living Manchester United legend.
This news has rocked football and many Manchester United fans are concerned over the future of their club despite Moyes looking the best choice for the job. This change of Management has influenced our Captain Tips for round 37 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League.
There has been an argument that Manchester United have coasted through their Premier League games over the last five or six weeks but this weekend they really have something to play for. Swansea City are the visitors for Sir Alex Fergusons last home game in charge of Manchester United. We are expecting a strong performance from the Red Devils this weekend with and have a feeling that Ryan Giggs could play a starring role. To select Giggs as your Captain would be far too risky meaning that many will go for Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman has been one of the few Manchester United players that fantasy premier league managers have relied on this season and we don’t expect this to change this weekend.
Many football fans will be glad to see the back of Sir Alex Ferguson and none more so than Liverpool. They have made good progress under Brendan Rogers this season and have already improved their points total collect last season. Daniel Sturridge has scored three goals and three assists in his last three Premier League games and dispite a blank in the Merseyside derby we expect him and Liverpool to score a lot of goals against a faltering Fulham side who may have reached 40 points too early in the season as their performances recently have been very poor.
If your fantasy premier league team does not have Van Persie or Sturridge it would be a good bet that you have Gareth Bale. A draw against Chelsea earlier this week means that Champions League qualification is out of Tottenhams hands. They must hope that results go their way and win their last two Premier League fixtures. Bale has a tough game away to Stoke but does appear to be the safest bet other than the players mentioned above. Theo Walcott narrowly missed out on making it into our tips and captains selection this week and is also worth considering.
Christian Benteke makes another welcomed return to our captain tips this week after being tipped last weekend he went on to pick up a hat-trick against Sunderland and we are backing him once again this week when Villa make the trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich. Three points for the Villains this weekend is a must and with Benteke being in such good form and having already contributed to over 50% of Villa’s goals this season he will have to be at his best if they are to get the three points they so badly need.
The last name on our list is West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku, the Baggies front man has been in great form since the turn of the year and has scored or assisted in 10 of his last 13 appearances. West Brom welcome under pressure Wigan to the Hawthorns this weekend and despite the fact that the Baggies season is all but over and they have nothing left to play for they still went out and duly picked off Southampton 3-0 last weekend and with Wigan’s defence not exactly up to scratch Lukaku is sure to get chances, but it must be said this is by far the riskiest captain tip of all as we all know on any give day the Latics can come out fighting and really surprise us all.
