Last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Wigan is not exactly the result that Tottenham would have hoped for as they go in search of Champions League football next season but in the end it turned out to be a point earned rather than two dropped.
Currently sitting in fifth spot two points behind Arsenal with a game in hand Tottenham will have the chance to set the record straight and leapfrog their North London rivals with a win this weekend against Southampton.
One man who will be key for Spurs should they collect all three points against Southampton this weekend is Jan Vertonghen, the former Ajax captain has steadily grown into his position in the Tottenham back four and is performing well not only for Spurs but also for fantasy managers.
The big center half has five goals, three assists and seven clean sheets to his credit this season and with a home game on the cards against Mauricio Pochettino’s Southampton this Saturday we may be about to see him add to those tallies.
The Saints make the trip to north London all but assured of safety, currently sitting on 39 points they look to be out of danger and that was evident from their play last weekend when they went down 3-0 to West Brom at home.
With the pressure off the Saints may have taken their foot off the accelerator and this will suit both Vertonghen and Tottenham down to the ground, AVB’s men can not afford to drop anymore points and we expect them to lock out the Saints this weekend.
