Having published our thoughts on the top players for you to be considering ahead of round 34 our attention now turns to that all important captain decision and this week’s decision is made a little trickier given the recent poor performances from some of the big names.
But we love a good challenge here in the Managers Office and our coaches are on hand as usual to bring you their top three contenders for the armband this weekend.
As usual we will be bringing you the latest weekend team news a little later this afternoon so be sure to check back in with us for that, but for now let us take a closer look at the possible captains for round 34 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League.
Robin van Persie makes a welcomed return to our captain tips for the first time in a few weeks and after his recent goal drought it’s good to see him back among the goals. The Manchester United striker has netted twice in two games for the current league leaders and despite United’s 2-2 draw with West Ham in midweek the Dutch man look in good form as they prepare for the visit of Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Monday night.
The second name on our shortlist is another striker who has come into some good form of late, Oliver Giroud. The former Montpellier man has 11 goals and four assists to his credit this season and with two goals and two assists coming in his last five games he is certainly one of the most inform strikers in the league. With news coming out of Arsenal that Lukas Podolski is out of action this weekend it will once again fall to Giroud to lead the line against Fulham.
The last man on our list is will be somewhat of a differential when it comes to the captaincy but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Michu has been off the boil so to speak in recent weeks but he has made a return to scoring form grabbing two goals in his last two appearances. Swansea did not feature in round 33 so the Spaniard should be well rested going into this weekend’s game with Southampton at the Liberty Stadium and with Michu set to continue up front he could well grab another goal or two to add to the 17 he has already collected this season.
