There is only one name on the lips of Sunderland fans and that is Paolo Di Canio. The name on fantasy premier league managers lips after last weeks performance is most certainly Stephane Sessegnon.
The attacking midfielder was deployed centrally in the “hole” against Newcastle to great effect. The Benin International scored and assisted as the Black Cats beat the Magpies 3-0 at the Sports Direct Arena.
Over the last few seasons Sessegnon has made it into our thinking a few times as the player undoubtedly has the skill to deliver but not always the consistency. This lack of consistency has seen him deployed on the wings and as a result his fantasy football potential diminishes.
Sunderland were tipped by many to be relegated but Di Canio appears to have bread new life into the side with a great performance recently against Chelsea and obviously a great win away to Newcastle last weekend.
Despite a quiet season Sessegnon has scored six premier league goals and made five goals for team mates and we expect him to add to this tally over his next few Premier League games.
Although a difficult fixture against Everton looms this weekend Sunderland have Aston Villa, Stoke and Southampton to follow. Expect to hear the classic relegation cliches such as every game is a cup final ect over the coming weeks
The one attribute all these teams share accept perhaps Everton is their defences are making mistakes and conceding goals.
Sunderland may not win every game but expect Sessegnon to be at the heart of the fantasy football points they produce as the season draws to a close.
